Towards continuity and development of traditional arts and crafts in Toshima

The Toshima Traditional Arts and Crafts Preservation Society has continued to organise exhibitions, hands-on workshops and other activities to share the beauty and appeal of traditional crafts practised in Toshima City with local residents. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the residents who have supported our activities, as well as to Mayor Miyuki Takagiwa and the staff of Toshima City for their invaluable assistance.
Traditional crafts are the culmination of the skills and spirit developed and passed down through generations, shaped by the dedication and ingenuity of our predecessors over many years. Mastering these crafts requires considerable time and effort. They are an irreplaceable part of our cultural heritage, having enriched the lives and traditions of local communities, and must never be allowed to disappear. We believe it is our responsibility to preserve and pass them on to future generations.
Despite the challenges posed by the ageing of skilled craftspeople and changes in society and lifestyles, all members of our Society remain committed to preserving, promoting and passing on these traditional crafts, with the continued support and guidance of all those involved.
